Hypnotic trance can be an absolutely amazing experience but there are many people who struggle to understand and/or enjoy hypnosis to its full potential. After all, the hypnosis community is growing steadily, but the reality is that at present it remains a relatively small niche area and the information available is limited. At the same time, misconceptions, preconceptions and assumptions about what hypnosis is and how it work abound and can create confusion and uncertainty.
I would like to take the opportunity now to dispel some of those myths and to share some information about hypnosis – what it is and isn’t, why it’s totally safe and how you can more easily and effectively enjoy discovering and experiencing all the amazing possibilities on offer. Please bear in mind that the view I am presenting are subjective – they represent my interpretation and understanding, but at the same time I have been involved in hypnosis for many years, and a lot of people have fed back to me that they have found my explanations useful. I hope you do, too.
If you’re reading this, you’re no doubt curious about hypnosis, but may be struggling to understand how it works. The first thing you need to know is that the ability to trance successfully is a natural, innate skill that we all possess. Ever daydreamed, become so focused on a task in hand that you forget what’s going on around you, got lost in thought or been driving on a familiar route, eventually arriving at your destination without fully recalling how you got here (aka driving on autopilot)? Those are all examples of light trance. They’re not remotely dangerous and you can bring yourself out of trance any time you want. None of that changes when you’re working with a hypnotist.
The best analogy I have found to explain hypnosis and to dispel some of the more common misconceptions is to liken trancing to learning a new skill. For instance, if you wanted to learn to play the piano, you can teach yourself the basics, but if you want to get really good at it then you bring in someone to show you how – someone to teach you how you can build upon what you’re already capable of. This is exactly what a hypnotist does. Hypnosis is not something that is “done” to you. Hypnotists are simply teachers/guides/facilitators. We’re there to show you how you can effectively tap into your own natural trancing ability and get better at it. We can help highlight to you the signposts your mind and body offer which tell you that you’re on the right path in terms of going into trance (e.g. breathing slowing, mind becoming clearer and more focused, etc) and we can be there to support and guide you through exploring and discovering all the possibilities which hypnotic trance offers.
If you’re looking for someone to teach you, then presumably you’ve done your research into your teacher. You’ve checked that they have experience, that they are happy to put your mind at ease by answering any questions you have, and that you are comfortable with their style of teaching. You research and check all of these things because you are making an investment. It is no different with regards to hypnosis.
I also recommend starting out with a live session (it doesn’t have to be in person – via Skype works just fine) if you can as the experience will be more personalised – more tailored to your specific requirement and it will give you a firmer foundation from which to build your experience. The hypnotist will be able to answer your questions, explain what you may be experiencing and why and is better placed to help guide you and teach you how to recognise the signs that you are going into trance. This is very important as a lot of people have preconceived ideas about what will happen and how it can feel, and if the reality doesn’t match their expectations they can feel as if they’ve failed (even when they haven’t) and it can delay your ability to fully enjoy and appreciate the power and pleasure of trance.
The most simplistic explanation of trance is to suggest that instead of your typical conscious awareness, which is outward looking and focuses what is going on around you, trance shifts the balance to the internal focus of the subconscious which looks inward. This makes you more self-aware of what and how you feel, and also gives you greater self-control which is what allows you to make positive, long-lasting changes in therapeutic hypnosis and in recreational and erotic hypnosis gives you the power to enjoy incredible pleasure and experiences. In other words you’re not “asleep” in trance – quite the opposite. You’re more self aware, focused and in control than usual. The reason many people close their eyes (which relates to the false idea that hypnosis is sleep) is either because they assume it is a necessary part of trance or because it helps them to focus.
One issue which crops up a lot is the concept of control. I just want to clarify that it is not necessary for you to give up any control to enjoy hypnosis. However, if you are so way inclined, you can (ideally once you have built up a sufficient rapport and level of trust with the hypnotist) offer to give up/give over control to the hypnotist you are working with so that he or she is “given the reins” so to speak and can give commands and suggestions which you automatically respond to. For some people this is an incredibly erotic concept and it can be used to great effect with hypnosis, but I want to reiterate, especially for those who are worried or concerned about losing control that it is merely an option (if you choose to do so) rather than a necessity. Look at it this way – you have to have control to be able to give it up. Control cannot be taken from you – it can only be requested by a hypnotist and/or offered up by you.

Hey guys (and gals)
So – I’ve had an idea which I am rather excited about but want to run past you all for feedback. I’m thinking of doing some podcasts (sort of audio blog posts) but would like to know what you guys would like covered in terms of topics. Do you want me to talk about my recordings – give a greater insight into the inspiration behind some of them; some historical hypnotic experiences – what would you like to hear about? I’d also considered answering submitted questions relating to hypnosis so that is another possibility. It would mean a lot to me if you could share your thoughts and ideas – either by commenting on this blog or emailing me at info@queenofdreamshypnosis.com
In other good news I have some new recordings which I am in the process of editing and which should be available for you to enjoy soon.

Okay guys – I know I’ve been pretty quiet these last few weeks and I’m sorry. I got called upon last minute to dog/house sit for my folks for a few weeks whilst they jetted off on holiday.
I assumed (wrongly as it turns out) that it wouldn’t be a massive impediment, but of course things never turn out the way you expect! Turns out my folks have done zero training with the dogs, so I was getting woken up every few hours in the night, dealing with dogs barking every time someone walked by the house and goodness knows what else. None of this was conducive to either maintaining my sanity or enjoying skype sessions/recording.
Sooo…I’ve pretty much been on hiatus for the last few weeks, spending my time trying to hold on to what is left of my sanity with minimal sleep. It’s not been fun but the good news is I will be home by Monday 8th May, and so after taking a few days to catch up on sleep I should be good to go! I’ve got some new recordings I’m hoping to release soon and also some new ideas I want to run by you guys which I will share in my next blog post.
Want to finish up by saying a big thank you to all my boys for checking in on me during the last few weeks and for your ongoing support. It means the world to me. x

Okay…this is going to be an interesting one for me to write as I myself do not identify as submissive. But, I already wrote a blog post entitled “What does it mean to be Dominant?” so I felt it was only fair to attempt to address the balance. In view of my non-submissive nature I suspect this blog is going to end up being more of a “what are my expectations of someone who approaches me as a submissive”, but we’ll see. (I don’t pre-write my blog posts – much like writing my scripts I simply let the words flow and see where I end up.
The main problem I have in trying to pin-point what it means to be submissive is that submissiveness covers such a wide range of potential attitudes and behaviors. Googling a dictionary definition for submission tells me that submission is defined as someone who is “ready to conform to the authority or will of others; meekly obedient or passive”. That’s a good start, but off the top of my head I can think of so many different…categories I guess?….of submission:
- Role-play: People who enjoy role-playing submission but are not actually submissive.
- Sexually submissive: enjoy being submissive in the bedroom but not necessarily outside of it.
- Selfish submissives: those who think they are submissive but want to be so on their own terms and attempt to dictate what they want.
- Submit but not serve: typically alpha guys (in my experience) who are looking for a temporary escape from being in control and always wanting to make decisions.
- Lifestyle submissives: people who identify as being submissive as a lifestyle choice. Have a desire to obey and serve.
Now, as I am not really “in” the BDSM scene there may well be other variations I’ve missed out. If so, forgive me.
In my own experience in the world of hypnoDommes and Erotic Hypnosis I have come across all sorts of individuals. I admit I always slightly raise an eyebrow if someone I barely know tells me they want to submit to me/be my slave (if only because I don’t have slaves and if you knew me well enough to offer genuine submission you’d know that. But I digress…). Mentally I always file such individuals as role-players or selfish. That’s not to say my position won’t change – it may transpire they’re new to the scene and figuring everything out, for example – but first impressions do count for a lot.
To my mind making the decision to consciously submit to someone else and hand over control is a big deal. It is a decision that should be borne of mutual understanding and trust, and it is imperative that the Dominant party understands and appreciates the responsibility they are taking on in accepting the gift of submission.
If you genuinely identify as submissive then you possess an innate desire to serve and please, but it is important that you do not allow others to take advantage of your desires. To my mind a healthy balance (to a degree) should also be maintained which is why I do not encourage my boys to obey without question (unless it’s a post-hypnotic trigger…in that case they really don’t have any choice in the matter). I encourage dialogue, and I encourage development and expression of their own thoughts and opinions. Being submissive does not and should not mean that you are not allowed to hold/express your own opinions. Yes, the Dominant party may make the majority of the decisions and may have the final say, but the submissive’s perspective and opinion should always be taken into account. Expressing an opinion does not make you any less submissive. Quite the opposite – it shows a willingness to engage in the relationship (as long as it is done respectfully and constructively).
I know that some Domme’s prefer to take as much control as possible; make as many decisions as possible and generally maximise any potential for control. Some subs also enjoy and appreciate this. But there is a whole range of possibilities. I am more laid back and quietly assertive but my boys do not question that I am the Dominant in the relationship. I encourage them to express themselves and be the best possible version of themselves that they can be as their behavior not only reflects back on me as their Domme, but as their Domme I also have a responsibility to them – to take care of them. It’s a responsibility I take very seriously. I also personally do not want a slave who always does everything I ask. I want my boys to feel confident to challenge me when appropriate – they may be right, they may not but I like knowing that they feel confident enough in our dynamic to do so. I want my submissive boys to feel empowered by their submission, not a slave to it. I know that if I ask or command my boys to do something they will do so because they genuinely enjoy serving me and they know I would never take advantage. Other Dommes prefer a more “traditional” submissive who is very openly submissive in their attitude. There is no right or wrong. I am sure that my attitude horrifies some of a more traditional subbie nature, but those traits are the same that my boys – that have chosen me and I have accepted – happen to find my attitude syncs well with their desires and expectations and when you get that mesh of ideals – that’s when the magic happens!

There seems to be (for some reason I have yet to fathom) an enduring assumption that analytical people are somehow “difficult” to trance. I have spoken to so many people who say to me “oh, I’m analytical – I can’t be hypnotised”. Usually it has because they have tried and failed or, even worse, some short-sighted hypnotist has told them (mistakenly) that they’re difficult to trance because they’re analytical.
Can I just begin by saying that that is complete and utter nonsense – if someone tries to tell you that you will be bad at trancing or will struggle to trance, ignore them. They’re talking rubbish and it is a reflection of their own inability to perceive your natural talent for trancing rather than any shortcoming on your part.
Analytically minded people make amazing subjects! They make absolutely amazing subjects and trance quicker and deeper than just about any other type of subject. How do I know this? 6+ years of experience as a hypnotist working with so called “difficult” people who previously struggled to trance. Seriously – if you are analytical, you are a fantastic subject and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!
“But” I hear you say (especially if you’re analytical), “I have tried and have struggled with hypnosis, so you can’t be correct”. My response to such as statement would be along the lines of saying that there are many, many different kinds of inductions which can be used and when dealing with analytical people, a lot of hypnotists seem to assume that you have to either suppress or bypass the analytical part of the subject to induce successful trance. Me? I take the opposite stance. I actively encourage people to fully employ their analytical skills to explore the transition into trance.
Analytical people are naturally excellent at focusing and, well…analysing. Both of these are absolutely fantastic attributes if you’re looking to enjoy trance. Trying to ignore/suppress/bypass these is akin to typing with one hand tied behind your back – yes, you can still do it, but you’re making it unnecessarily hard on yourself. You’re not “doing it wrong” if you’re analysing what’s happening – quite the opposite. You’ll probably find yourself trancing deeper and quicker because you’re not only aware of what’s happening, but you can see that it’s working.
For my part I absolutely love working with analytical people. Once you get the right induction that works for them it’s like a light switch – *boom*, they’re under. It’s brilliant! Or, you get “it’s not going to work….it’s not going to work….holy sh*t, it worked!”. I’m telling you – that exclamation of surprise and excitement never gets old (and I’ve been doing this for years, now).
Please, please, please don’t get discouraged if you have previously tried to trance and struggled. It is in no way a reflection on you and your ability to trance. All it means is that you haven’t found a technique/style that resonates with you yet. There is no induction in the world that works on 100% of people, and whilst it can be nice to “relax” into an induction, it’s not necessary so feel free to let loose and analyse the hell out of it. Odds are, in doing so you’ll drop that much quicker – especially with the right induction.
If you’re just starting out, or have struggled previously I highly recommend a live session with a hypnotist whose style you like and who specialises in working with analytical people (in other words appreciates/celebrates your innate talents and knows how to show you how to effectively capitalise on them). If you can’t commit to a live session, I have an induction available in my MP3 store on my website called “Beyond Progressive Relaxation” which I created especially for analytical minds.
Either way, explore, learn and enjoy and above all know that you are a natural when it comes to trancing and are more than capable of enjoying some truly phenomenal experiences!

“Xenagogue” is the title of my latest file. It’s also my first collaboration project and to say I am really excited about it is an understatement!
To date, I have written every single script for every file I’ve recorded, and whilst I have no plans to stop writing, I also like to push my boundaries and explore new possibilities. One such opportunity came with a story a good friend of mine (me-chan) wrote. Me-chan is an excellent writer and I have always admired his work, so I was excited when he shared a new story – Xenagogue – with me.
Reading through the story I couldn’t help but wonder what this amazing story would sound like if I recorded it. It is amazing enough on paper (you can read it here) but would it work as a recording? I experiment a lot – some stuff works, some doesn’t. I am very selective about what I choose to share as I want you to be able to enjoy the absolute best I have to offer. Recording this story would be something totally new to me, but I did it – and boy has it paid off!
I am really, really happy with how this file has turned out. It was a challenge in some respects – for example I always record my files in a single take to maintain as much “authenticity” and continuity of a live session as I can. It’s one of the reasons why my recordings tend to be shorter than average at around 15 minutes. Xenagogue, however, is over 30 minutes long. Recording in a single take for over 30 minutes was no mean feat but I feel it has really paid off.
The story flows beautifully and I’ve been able to put my own stamp on it. It’s not me simply reading a story (beautifully written as it is). It’s an opportunity I take to lead you on a journey – take you exactly when, where and how I want you and demonstrate to you how exquisite obedience can be. After all, what’s not to love about that?
